The wedding season has started again, or maybe it never ended. My cousin is getting married this weekend, and the whole thing has just been turned into a fashion thing. I have to admit, I am not really a fan of clothes and all; I prefer to have comfortable ones rather than really trendy ones. But CLOTHES are a different matter for my mother; she will practically die if she doesn’t buy something in, let’s say, a week (probably why my closet is full of clothes which I have never even worn in my whole life). And weddings make up the perfect excuse for buying more clothes.

Sure enough, for the past month, all I remember doing really is shopping, lots of shopping, which I don’t really mind if shoes are involved (what is it about women and shoes, you don’t want to know), but just remembering the whole range of clothes and jewellery and accessories I had to review makes me feel dizzy. Traditional, formal, casual, you name it and I’ve seen it. My mother wanted to wear blue for the wedding and she ended up with like 5 dresses with practically all shades, from light blue to blue-green, not counting the ones I forced her not to take with us.

As a result, we’ve got a whole suitcase packed, the type of suitcase you use when you are travelling, except we are not travelling, we are simply going to a wedding. For a weekend. For two days. And while I am here whining about my mom’s craze, I also have like half a dozen packed, or more; I still have not decided on the ones I’m going to wear.

Are weddings always that hectic?

Fashion has always been one area of society in general that I have just never really properly understood; picking out clothes to buy is usually a case of instantaneously falling in love during shopping trips for me :-P . Even then, I have so few clothes I can go through cycles of my entire wardrobe in a few days :-P . I think I’m also driven by comfort in clothes, though for my mother, it is probably more a case of fashion, and fashion consciousness that determines what she buys.

Weddings are always a prime example of this; the clothes we wear are often decided by her weeks in advance. Any formal occasion requires planning well before the event itself, and I’m afraid it’s a trait I feel I may have inherited. I guess it is very true that you hold a part of your personality and in how you dress and how you present yourself, though it is never more then a misty glance into someone’s soul :-)

There’s a line I always remember from a TV programme I love when a son innocently asks their dad why they have to wear such itchy clothes as they get ready to leave for a family wedding, and the dad replies somewhat dejectedly ‘It’s a wedding; everyone has to be as uncomfortable as physically possible, it’s the law’ . As Bruno says, it is probably easier for guys in choosing what to wear for such occasions, although there is something fun in choosing new clothes, the joy of feeling that spark when you see something that you like. A wedding is the perfect excuse to let the cycle unfold once more :-)

I hope you have a really great time at the wedding, and that everything works out perfectly for you :-)

    Thanks everyone =)

I sure hope that it would be fun, considering that nearly all my cousins have exams and are not coming.

Ah mothers, they want to be so perfect XD But then, aren’t they?

    @ Bruno
Lucky and damn these guys. They have a much easy life compared to us girls.

    @ Dawn
Well, I’m not sure about the one dress only, since there’ll be all types of rituals, etc. Im really rooting for a simple one, already told my mother. =P

I really think it will be worse when you get married, however, I think you will settle on one dress for that. It will be all the other things and helping your mom find a dress that may be a problem and perhaps deciding which shoes you will wear. I haven’t had such a difficult time with weddings, but then I don’t have the money to spend on dresses so I just wear any old thing. It probably won’t be that way when my kids get married though.

  5. Bruno says:

yes they are … for girls :P we boys can put the same suit over and over again … this does not seem to work for girls :P

I go more for comfort as well. But weddings are fun! And deserving of something new and fun. :)

I’m relieved to see I’m not the only one finding it hectic enough to blog about it. :D Good luck for choosing which clothes to wear. Incidentally, my mum was also very choosy when it came to clothes for the wedding we just went to. She even went to buy a new saree yesterday morning ’cause she wanted a dark red one. Ah mothers!
